<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDHGO_Q5cIERvpKHCKoC0Ooa0Wh-epwX0h2D73kDNpypKhEXUZ2DUsPSO02rizeVuLqg6TQX8fO7Jowrh9dxq7VV6FlWsmaJ70evjBreiTkeG9HuwTiT3pKwtJpnjcU89DnKFs7PKwH3fe/s1600/three-drawer-after-3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDHGO_Q5cIERvpKHCKoC0Ooa0Wh-epwX0h2D73kDNpypKhEXUZ2DUsPSO02rizeVuLqg6TQX8fO7Jowrh9dxq7VV6FlWsmaJ70evjBreiTkeG9HuwTiT3pKwtJpnjcU89DnKFs7PKwH3fe/s1600/three-drawer-after-3.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
This is where I started...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7TMeibEHODQXcgWZpzwP5UtQWtRj9BdPS-GpfSNYE4mhQth-AvUa0aL7FznBUbIhHes1qFh_7K1c4exLPGDASjKpT4RSOZERmYoNqHZWQXzl4-Yom3kcp5ghZNEmc-eA52gjJQOT27ztt/s1600/vintage-sewing-drawers2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7TMeibEHODQXcgWZpzwP5UtQWtRj9BdPS-GpfSNYE4mhQth-AvUa0aL7FznBUbIhHes1qFh_7K1c4exLPGDASjKpT4RSOZERmYoNqHZWQXzl4-Yom3kcp5ghZNEmc-eA52gjJQOT27ztt/s1600/vintage-sewing-drawers2.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpXtCczXJ3PEIzGvVCy_NjjvHSvZagbYSzMkek0I_Nxk7Jg0QJa0oJ6jp2hRsHvbmcws_pcy-fo1BVo_b2c5dJsBPrhHpGFrY7ubnFLqXfaxXq1tRPb94VSKmR6hSG8pUP9M3RX5Q76KHT/s1600/vintage-sewing-drawers3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpXtCczXJ3PEIzGvVCy_NjjvHSvZagbYSzMkek0I_Nxk7Jg0QJa0oJ6jp2hRsHvbmcws_pcy-fo1BVo_b2c5dJsBPrhHpGFrY7ubnFLqXfaxXq1tRPb94VSKmR6hSG8pUP9M3RX5Q76KHT/s1600/vintage-sewing-drawers3.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
The sides of the cabinets were in pretty rough shape... missing/peeling veneer, warping, and some slight water damage (I love the kids' drawings on the sides of the drawers...)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjGR8roAox4rTRl2AMUdFS4aD9dsIcdYV5UnyRVNjqo4Aohvtj7r3LrB0DV-fsJuXsRMNFouFs5jIczwVbGieHSPJ9vRpAihYvcvXmERecq4tSW0NL86T0LvGCT4lJo6dySgAJRLygyhtH/s1600/three-drawer-after-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjGR8roAox4rTRl2AMUdFS4aD9dsIcdYV5UnyRVNjqo4Aohvtj7r3LrB0DV-fsJuXsRMNFouFs5jIczwVbGieHSPJ9vRpAihYvcvXmERecq4tSW0NL86T0LvGCT4lJo6dySgAJRLygyhtH/s1600/three-drawer-after-2.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
I clean the drawers and cabinet inside and out, then applied Danish Oil to the unpainted sections of the drawers. It gives the wood a nice, natural finish without having to use stain.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimJ_5yLDWDZyUIuLtb43ZUPIhnT5UZjw3TGIVBP3MQc2jFFCC1mhA0fDT2p2a1y7ze6pw0pokaThlJ5xG5AriCSGFsJgrxt4Tq64RkLtbQdvsdbX8vyRQEYgiAsjpl89mraUy1MJvsvPAs/s1600/three-drawer-after-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimJ_5yLDWDZyUIuLtb43ZUPIhnT5UZjw3TGIVBP3MQc2jFFCC1mhA0fDT2p2a1y7ze6pw0pokaThlJ5xG5AriCSGFsJgrxt4Tq64RkLtbQdvsdbX8vyRQEYgiAsjpl89mraUy1MJvsvPAs/s1600/three-drawer-after-1.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
I had my son make the "caps" for the top and bottom and stained them to match. <br />
<br />
The set would be great used in an office for supplies (pens & pencils, ink cartridges, etc) or in the bathroom for additional storage (think brushes, curling irons, or even medications), The uses are numerous!<br />
<br />
I've been working on a "weathered" finish for the singles drawers.....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4y7I7DCUOKS0-Efnw99bYPUDzWx37wB7eutiHuc049Gc-TRUOrWTxfj22ZhJW7PrXMSydpRm5txOKR5wbu7fmxKa0kfKjvmFe0PHK0j5CZ36iWIm7UVxr7X2lOIuo4U7NyvYsYUCC_FKW/s1600/weathered-finish-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4y7I7DCUOKS0-Efnw99bYPUDzWx37wB7eutiHuc049Gc-TRUOrWTxfj22ZhJW7PrXMSydpRm5txOKR5wbu7fmxKa0kfKjvmFe0PHK0j5CZ36iWIm7UVxr7X2lOIuo4U7NyvYsYUCC_FKW/s1600/weathered-finish-1.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjujux3o0hPVRim3THSSrSnl8YZJhitva3ZIEzGGcfj3P7NGpu3x7U78y3QmHTPoH9_N3HrWxZoi5-NUXQQ40mUtrSYLmIj3y6_4a333HhGzqB0PPmoy-4AN0lIVuhIGHqFD8QxgmPdq7MY/s1600/weathered-finish-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjujux3o0hPVRim3THSSrSnl8YZJhitva3ZIEzGGcfj3P7NGpu3x7U78y3QmHTPoH9_N3HrWxZoi5-NUXQQ40mUtrSYLmIj3y6_4a333HhGzqB0PPmoy-4AN0lIVuhIGHqFD8QxgmPdq7MY/s1600/weathered-finish-2.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
This finish works best on oak or similar woods with a distinctive grain. I just watered down Paris Grey paint, applied it with a brush and wiped it off almost immediately with a dry towel. One coat of clear wax and call it a day.<br />
<br />
I love the way the finish turned out.... but I'm still trying to decide on hardware. <br />
<br />
These drawers came without the original pulls,,,, which is usually not a problem as all the ones I've gotten in the past were single knobs and easy to replace. This had a pull of some kind and I can't find replacements that fit the width of the holes. Looks like it's wood filler at this point....<br />
<br />
The 3 drawer cabinet is listed on my website <span style="color: #cc0000;"><a href="http://www.vintagehomeobx.com/inventory-for-sale.html" target="_blank">here</a> </span>and the 2 single drawers will be listed as soon as I've solved the knob issue!<br />

Antique Sewing Cabinet DrawersI love re-purposing antique sewing drawers.... and I've found so many uses for them around the house. <br />

Love the ornate wood working on the sides of this set (the other is missing most of the veneer and a good portion of the embellishments). <br />
<br />

With a little time and paint, I'll have these looking great!<br />
<br />
I'll have them listed on my Facebook page and website as they are completed, so if you are interested in purchasing them, follow me on FB.<br />
<br />
Have a great weekend!<br />

<br />
This is the finished project on a recent client request. <br />
<br />
I live in an area that is supported by the tourism industry.... specifically, the weekly renting of vacation homes. Many of these homes were furnished several years ago and are in need of a little updating with regard to the home's decor.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIiNMxW5a64cksD1nB6uje5srg5VbzrpfdqMf5DeiBLziqYk5JDxHdsyMgOKOiF7yKqq3TmzXdfqhKsdKsiebXhFCMsg0cBpVpskxQheaHQPiRIffbuuffK1TH_96ZYHxZ1B3pGX44O4li/s1600/table-before.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIiNMxW5a64cksD1nB6uje5srg5VbzrpfdqMf5DeiBLziqYk5JDxHdsyMgOKOiF7yKqq3TmzXdfqhKsdKsiebXhFCMsg0cBpVpskxQheaHQPiRIffbuuffK1TH_96ZYHxZ1B3pGX44O4li/s1600/table-before.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
This is where we started... wrought-iron table base and glass table top, with a total of 8 chairs that needed a little TLC. This home accommodates 10 people, but the existing table could only seat 4 comfortably.... 6 chairs (as shown) is cramped. There is also seating for 4 at the counter.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzBmIaG-HXdvgXDaq0vqb0IpLSNBSqUkjEqiqQu2Y8opdemOJEMp69-2mVezcPRCLme6t4tPhDze9SWwMdbqHpW8XUWGW2-kz1G6ae0kis8Zh9_7ndUP0IsKiIFifv9ddnICgY8V_My0Ad/s1600/replacement-table-before.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzBmIaG-HXdvgXDaq0vqb0IpLSNBSqUkjEqiqQu2Y8opdemOJEMp69-2mVezcPRCLme6t4tPhDze9SWwMdbqHpW8XUWGW2-kz1G6ae0kis8Zh9_7ndUP0IsKiIFifv9ddnICgY8V_My0Ad/s1600/replacement-table-before.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Our first priority was to find a replacement table that would seat 6 comfortably and allow for 8 if needed. The table shown above is a very close version of what we found. Mine had a little more detail to the top and legs, and was stained a very dark mahogany.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi69j_jqYTMMLFzZUnAi2sjh55ni6tmPddcSXLTWh68rwYzUZfae4R6oNs6nE6XjQwYimsjIKVPSosK7i1RftHNig5MhRLrSKuFSIFsBonbazGLHhU6pfVv1BjRlorjU409clgbznLlnGiW/s1600/table-close-up.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi69j_jqYTMMLFzZUnAi2sjh55ni6tmPddcSXLTWh68rwYzUZfae4R6oNs6nE6XjQwYimsjIKVPSosK7i1RftHNig5MhRLrSKuFSIFsBonbazGLHhU6pfVv1BjRlorjU409clgbznLlnGiW/s1600/table-close-up.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
The wood tones in the house are all very light, so it was a challenge to strip the table top back (hoping the tone underneath would not be reddish). We were lucky... it stripped back to a natural light color. One coat of light oak stain and 6 coats of poly and the client was thrilled.<br />
<br />
The base and chairs are a custom mix I made using ASCP in Florence and Olde White. <br />

The chairs were painted to match the table base and re-upholstered with Sunbrella fabric in a neutral tone to match the couches.<br />

The original bar stools were worn out and needing some attention. They were also too tall for the counter height for adults to sit comfortably. We replaced them with standard wooden bar stools, and painted & sealed the tops to match.<br />

The client loves the transformation!<br />
<br />
For a fraction of the cost of replacement, we were able to change the entire look of the room with a little paint, fabric and a refurbished table. <br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSIaXbU-o3KcPX3G8WA5az9bw5wixiWLK2Zew3jexmp8TKF5KSLADIinjwv0DV36PJbAdsh7BZjTizHO9V_muyMcb8y8LdX97QU1gswCKTdOQn3oZok-GJ5EyJEp2mgOIfrIJS4QgQU3so/s1600/full-view.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSIaXbU-o3KcPX3G8WA5az9bw5wixiWLK2Zew3jexmp8TKF5KSLADIinjwv0DV36PJbAdsh7BZjTizHO9V_muyMcb8y8LdX97QU1gswCKTdOQn3oZok-GJ5EyJEp2mgOIfrIJS4QgQU3so/s1600/full-view.jpg" width="416" /></a></div>
<br />
You can read the details of that post <a href="http://vintagehomeobx.blogspot.com/2014/06/grandmas-vanity-turned-end-tables.html" target="_blank"><span style="color: #cc0000;">HERE</span></a>, but as I ended that post, I was left with the large center mirror and 2 rounded side mirrors. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLVQ2HOJzyb6oV2QvPhB8WG8qMtpdIoSONQXQZK3EnSHoAY9xPqmlmE3xAtEbA6xR1IuNkmtW5EAWAf5GceiqThb40atysQ-Nj7UqArYJHHfsmJwXTuLqc-Hz7g4utc-8wLemXCo2DhfFf/s1600/center-mirror-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLVQ2HOJzyb6oV2QvPhB8WG8qMtpdIoSONQXQZK3EnSHoAY9xPqmlmE3xAtEbA6xR1IuNkmtW5EAWAf5GceiqThb40atysQ-Nj7UqArYJHHfsmJwXTuLqc-Hz7g4utc-8wLemXCo2DhfFf/s1600/center-mirror-2.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
This is the frame to the large center mirror. My bedroom colors are mostly taupes with robins egg blue accents. Duck Egg Blue has always looked more green to me (my son thinks it's more blue); regardless, it's one of my favorite colors and I thought the contrast with everything else in the room would work well. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDd5V7fR7q05hPlxpJOUACRz6gDwfHE9UjOobQZakZo6lJ8bWEKB2RNH7DSAlelc_57ibIuYTa4Y6Oq0QubIYD3pXm7epuC5YnUFThgeGdXa1BtFrfKfm8rWwmJ_s1ADG_PjUPOe5K6Mbs/s1600/side-mirrors.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDd5V7fR7q05hPlxpJOUACRz6gDwfHE9UjOobQZakZo6lJ8bWEKB2RNH7DSAlelc_57ibIuYTa4Y6Oq0QubIYD3pXm7epuC5YnUFThgeGdXa1BtFrfKfm8rWwmJ_s1ADG_PjUPOe5K6Mbs/s1600/side-mirrors.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
I painted the sides and middle mirror (this night time shot definitely makes it lean towards green) all the same. With a light distress and clear wax. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
The two side pieces went to my booth space in Elizabeth City....<br />

And I kept the center mirror for my bedroom to use as a full length mirror.<br />
<br />
Love it!<br />

The BeddingAfter posting pictures of the re-purposed bed I painted for the master bedroom, I've gotten several comments on the bedding, and one specific question regarding the fabric for the drapes I made (I mention this only because the person asking the question was a "no-reply" listing in my in-box, and I was afraid she might not get my direct reply through the comments section). <i>Any who</i>....I know I'm always looking for sources in the things I find inspiring, so I thought I'd share some of the details for the room here for those that might care (those that do not, I totally understand!). This post will be a long one!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCCy11bNr-ZbalxkSIGn7ai5fUIcfssOlf0V3Ueu2eq1RsmAI7SRIx_hiAynCnpxYOXn1lvY6YFJv3Ac3QMZ5KPdX1A1TGpzvfoCX7B4nLgdqufM4uuhiMZSSs7CUg84mnkUE3V2LKL5MV/s1600/pillows.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCCy11bNr-ZbalxkSIGn7ai5fUIcfssOlf0V3Ueu2eq1RsmAI7SRIx_hiAynCnpxYOXn1lvY6YFJv3Ac3QMZ5KPdX1A1TGpzvfoCX7B4nLgdqufM4uuhiMZSSs7CUg84mnkUE3V2LKL5MV/s1600/pillows.jpg" height="484" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I bought the feather comforter (which you can't see) and the linen duvet cover almost a year before I actually put the room together. The best price I found in my lengthy web searching was from <u><span style="color: #cc0000;"><a href="http://www.thecompanystore.com/company-store/" target="_blank">The Company Store</a></span></u>... I bought both the feather comforter (which is the same color as the blanket shown) and linen duvet cover there. I originally bought the comforter for the winter....thinking it would be too much in the summer. But I use it year round....I never get hot and I love sleeping under it every night. I bought the cover as an after thought thinking I might want a change from all the blue. Once I figured out how to put the comforter into the cover, I never went back!<br />
<br />
The bedspread I bought at TJ Maxx for less than $40 for a Queen size. I bought my sheets from there as well.... 600 count cotton that is better than silk (plus you don't slide around.... just as an aside!). I have a chocolate brown set I use in the winter, and taupe for the spring/summer. Right around $45 to $50 for each set. You have to plan it right, but I live in a "rural" area and TJ Maxx is considered "da' bomb" for some of us. Our other choices are WalMart or KMart....'nuff said!<br />
<br />
*Note: the duvet cover is 100% linen and is fully wash-n-dry-able. In fact, the more you wash and dry it, the softer it gets. It might look a little wrinkled when it first comes out of the dryer, but levels out in no time!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi348o-jNAhge1MsZg8qAmCTSftVygeEW6D7Zcn1DOwa_h7usB0R7vRuzfr-Ps1EE2ineElHJAt-kjWarZAMhWQhVDp6mb0irvTLXC30jdvhWQrdrT_MwxMdXnbizTYxLwS1wmSAwGC28RD/s1600/bed-skirt.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi348o-jNAhge1MsZg8qAmCTSftVygeEW6D7Zcn1DOwa_h7usB0R7vRuzfr-Ps1EE2ineElHJAt-kjWarZAMhWQhVDp6mb0irvTLXC30jdvhWQrdrT_MwxMdXnbizTYxLwS1wmSAwGC28RD/s1600/bed-skirt.jpg" height="428" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The bed skirt I made myself from drop cloths. Hand pleating and all! My bed sits high up on the frame (on purpose) and even if I found a skirt that I liked, the length would never have worked... from the floor to the top of the BOX SPRINGS is 20" (it's 36" to the top of the mattress. I like sleeping up high!) One heavy weight drop cloth and several hours trying to make the pleats uniform, and I had a custom bed skirt for less than $20!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivv8ZOpyDkDnD4rsc1Y45i6A8zeDDVYf3wkwhEiiCDnhIHl-bfYenH2JhDt1VbdpfBbkhJG7I4-twiVBUAxIR3Ia9koJDd4CGMQxpGoaOpVRGM1A-i4thDQQOnp7_Admtf-mo6sJExWGlt/s1600/linen-burlap-pillow.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivv8ZOpyDkDnD4rsc1Y45i6A8zeDDVYf3wkwhEiiCDnhIHl-bfYenH2JhDt1VbdpfBbkhJG7I4-twiVBUAxIR3Ia9koJDd4CGMQxpGoaOpVRGM1A-i4thDQQOnp7_Admtf-mo6sJExWGlt/s1600/linen-burlap-pillow.jpg" height="640" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
The pillows on the bed are a combination of ones I made and ones I bought. The one shown above I made from linen burlap... not your regular scratchy type. This linen combination is smooth and holds up great. I made it to fit a standard 16x12 pillow form, and added a vintage coat button in the middle. The 16x16 pillow in the other picture I obviously made from fabric left over from the curtains. The long pillow behind them both is, again, Ralph Lauren from TJ Maxx. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYYaW2kYLm5Ntyskl073R__l4CwA98-a5qpmukXRmL28UTbDiieHof76AQgdMLFXqicDD1dD33aNh04-XCzianRtgs3aWTTtQCn1obl8bw6ojeNuZTPEkEWxg4dYXSZEV_Ny1ZDEkmIox4/s1600/pillow-shams.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYYaW2kYLm5Ntyskl073R__l4CwA98-a5qpmukXRmL28UTbDiieHof76AQgdMLFXqicDD1dD33aNh04-XCzianRtgs3aWTTtQCn1obl8bw6ojeNuZTPEkEWxg4dYXSZEV_Ny1ZDEkmIox4/s1600/pillow-shams.jpg" height="640" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
The pillow shams are also from da' Maxx. I paid less than $20 for the pair, but honestly if you have fabric you can make them for the same or less. They are basically 2 pieces of fabric (the quilted pretty piece on top, and plain ole' lightweight muslin on the back) stitched on three sides with ties sewn on to close them. <br />
<br />
*Tip- I take all of the pillows (other than the 4 we sleep with) off of the bed every night. I never use the pillow sham pillows for sleeping... I've seen where some people do, but I wasn't brought up that way. I buy the cheapest foam pillows I can find (usually at WalMart for around $2 or $3 dollars each) and use those to stuff my shams. If one doesn't fit right, I'll jam 2 in there to make it full (these only have one)... but that way they keep their shape and I've only spent around $12 at most on the whole set up!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2iERHytXk5iQzQqOs4eJlZmYcFMLVnhtqquXfb5C5ClMAvktFUHc4NBym_TDOX9iumZWMqEEQ15lfrVksVuww4JWEuhtkUznzMhQZ4Ox8aXDNooIpi8buMXzt89aKrR7nt5IM6-kJfQAq/s1600/curtains-short-side.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2iERHytXk5iQzQqOs4eJlZmYcFMLVnhtqquXfb5C5ClMAvktFUHc4NBym_TDOX9iumZWMqEEQ15lfrVksVuww4JWEuhtkUznzMhQZ4Ox8aXDNooIpi8buMXzt89aKrR7nt5IM6-kJfQAq/s1600/curtains-short-side.jpg" height="640" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
And the curtains... my absolute favorite part of the room. And the one thing I spent the most on. If you can sew a straight seam, you can make curtains. I have 10' ceilings in my room, with 2 windows facing outward at full length, and this odd window on one wall that's about 2' shorter. I needed approximately 20 yards of material to make the six panels I needed for the 3 windows. I ordered 25 yards to be on the safe side. I found the fabric <span style="color: #cc0000;"><a href="https://www.fabric.com/SearchResults2.aspx?Source=Header&SearchText=barber&CategoryID=1d5f47dc-9991-4088-93f3-26a376046a5e" style="text-decoration: underline;" target="_blank">here</a> </span>and got free shipping due to the amount I ordered. For less than $200 I was able to make custom draperies for three windows in the exact length I wanted.<br />
<br />
Tip #1- Fortunately, this fabric was heavy weight- not necessarily upholstery weight, but heavy enough to hang well when put on the rods. However.... if you really want to make them hang straight and hold the gathering better, buy some cheap, round/flat, heavy fishing weights from the tackle shop and sew them into the folds on the inside right and left bottom folds of your panels. Yup! Instant professional looking draperies that cost less than nothing. Mine are hangin' like no bodies' business!<br />
<br />
Tip #2- If you need rods, etc. to hang your mighty fine drapes on, DO NOT shop for drapery rods. They are expensive (around $20 to $30 a piece) and come in limited lengths. DO visit the home improvement store (ours is where they wear orange vests) and ask to be directed to the CLOSET DOWEL department (where you buy the wooden dowels to hang your clothes on). Same diameter, same product.... much longer lengths (that can be cut to order- no waste) and MUCH cheaper! Like $20 for all three windows!<br />
<br />
Oh, and a tip I didn't even think of until I looked at the pictures...<br />
<br />
Tip #3- the "finials" you see.... they would be "legs" for stools or whatever that I bought for less than $3 each (versus the $6 ones in the drapery isle). They have the same two-way screw thing (technical term) as the actual rod finials, but at half the price and much longer. I needed that length as I was a little "shy" in measuring the length of the dowel I needed! Drill a hole into the dowel, squirt some wood glue into the hole, and screw the "leg" on in. Presto!<br />

And one of my more popular posts.... you can read all about the chest at the foot of my bed <u><span style="color: #cc0000;"><a href="http://vintagehomeobx.blogspot.com/2012/09/on-when-you-should-listen-to-that.html" target="_blank">here</a></span></u>. I use it to store my extra linen... and after all the trauma in completing it, it'll be around for a while!<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPsoq23d1bbfu_p9owqKWDwZz1DnPlbH33OPybTJuXIDoRzbWHu9KLuVc6aw2hTnQWY_C0oLGaKR1tUDpAezDrxjCWAp_41_AfNc0bRQv59WtblMgobvfGQuDciTtr8Sb0sU7cYI2DM5cY/s1600/drink-milk.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPsoq23d1bbfu_p9owqKWDwZz1DnPlbH33OPybTJuXIDoRzbWHu9KLuVc6aw2hTnQWY_C0oLGaKR1tUDpAezDrxjCWAp_41_AfNc0bRQv59WtblMgobvfGQuDciTtr8Sb0sU7cYI2DM5cY/s1600/drink-milk.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
In addition to the Fresh Eggs sign I made for my Mother's birthday (read the details <a href="http://vintagehomeobx.blogspot.com/2014/06/which-came-first.html" target="_blank"><span style="color: #cc0000;">here</span></a>) I also made a smaller chalk-board sign with a vintage inspired "drink milk" image I designed. The first time I laid it out, I didn't take into consideration that I wanted the bottle shape cut out (not solid, with lettering inside)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkBfmYp12_wIoPu4DXvBBMML6ZOyZvTTcZPpuRpoUZiDBvSugWVVX88B-5cOXI2AOVBDUsXY4fsx1OAH7WfVM-K23ksbtoMngA9DjcewE6xni91GJJ0213hyLCho7z4PqFxUPG2sjlytcV/s1600/milk-wrong.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkBfmYp12_wIoPu4DXvBBMML6ZOyZvTTcZPpuRpoUZiDBvSugWVVX88B-5cOXI2AOVBDUsXY4fsx1OAH7WfVM-K23ksbtoMngA9DjcewE6xni91GJJ0213hyLCho7z4PqFxUPG2sjlytcV/s1600/milk-wrong.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
See what I mean? Which would have been fine I guess in another application, but just not what I wanted. And, of course, my 18 year old wanted to know why in the world I had put one of my "signs" on a cutting board. Geez.... kids... they just don't get it!! (it didn't stay there... but it was within arms reach at the time and I didn't want to waste the vinyl!)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
This one will be perfect propped on top of her Hoosier Cabinet in the kitchen with her vintage tins, etc. For me, I've got some hardboard lying around and think I'll turn this into a chalkboard with the image justified to the left... writing space to the right. That should look pretty cool, I think!<br />

Angie at <span style="color: #cc0000;"><u><a href="http://knickoftimeinteriors.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Knick of Time</a></u></span> was kind enough to feature my "Which Came First...." sign on her blog last week as well as highlighting Vintage Home as the blog of the week. <br />
<br />
She is one of my favorite blogs to read and I've followed her for years. She creates amazing things out of what appears ordinary to some, and is very generous with her ideas and talents. Seeing her<u><span style="color: #cc0000;"> </span></u><a href="http://knickoftimeinteriors.blogspot.com/2013/06/it-does-body-good.html" target="_blank"><span style="color: #cc0000;">Milk & Cream Co</span>.</a> sign is what inspired me to design my own vintage advertising signs. <br />
<br />
I hope you'll take a minute and visit her blog.... she has amazing talents!<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzC8csSIfQq4boEdvykiHwZnAfqYq6_MR08Fz8pD9s-i9-0B7b9HA4K-DG59lURzlNbsiITcjKPeHuatosnL80TQBPiwK6TMqKdHDaaD66dPvJXfMb4j7aw7ywlAba4fZLhuzPZy1X465p/s1600/clean+or+dirty.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzC8csSIfQq4boEdvykiHwZnAfqYq6_MR08Fz8pD9s-i9-0B7b9HA4K-DG59lURzlNbsiITcjKPeHuatosnL80TQBPiwK6TMqKdHDaaD66dPvJXfMb4j7aw7ywlAba4fZLhuzPZy1X465p/s1600/clean+or+dirty.jpg" height="320" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
My sons are 17 & 18.... and they still do not put their dishes in the dishwasher unless I tell them to. According to them, it's because they don't know if the dishes in the dishwasher are clean or dirty. Of course I'm standing right there so they could ASK, but it's much easier, I guess, to stack them on the counter NEXT to the dishwasher and wait for the "dish fairy" to take care of them. I guess I can be thankful that they at least scrape and rinse them for me!<br />
<br />
This is an easy project that takes no time at all to make. You'll need some hardboard (or lightweight, thin wood of some type), Mod Podge to adhere the cardstock sign to the board (or watered white glue works just as well) and a couple of magnets (you can re-purpose old fridge magnets, if you have them).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgT0rg6aNz-G2Qq32oLwsH3tTbwZLVls57Dpr99scUMFeYfghJovMkkw1kRYS-Rndx9Z8HU6qW7NILuS95yH4xCo4bj2-_pc484DJaF8-_E1uWDuJhncpdRnHpw9ClBDAwm6XnByZOIR3jO/s1600/clean-sign-supplies.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgT0rg6aNz-G2Qq32oLwsH3tTbwZLVls57Dpr99scUMFeYfghJovMkkw1kRYS-Rndx9Z8HU6qW7NILuS95yH4xCo4bj2-_pc484DJaF8-_E1uWDuJhncpdRnHpw9ClBDAwm6XnByZOIR3jO/s1600/clean-sign-supplies.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
After you've printed out your image (use cardstock if you have it) just mount it to your pre-cut wood with ModPodge or glue, smooth it out (I use the side of a cut paint stick) and coat the top... this will help with moisture when the "dry" cycle is running. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6od3tef5Dztyp2UtlkYN_ofOGfZs0D6FGAkJZaptZpPf0rDYULopra_NglmmodKuWa_0LqcUtU8Q97eGrYniN6U7n7oW3E2JGLbnj_DQDUf1BbbmRG4EvW_cDHBY3qJD2sCs348BfThob/s1600/clean-sign-closeup.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6od3tef5Dztyp2UtlkYN_ofOGfZs0D6FGAkJZaptZpPf0rDYULopra_NglmmodKuWa_0LqcUtU8Q97eGrYniN6U7n7oW3E2JGLbnj_DQDUf1BbbmRG4EvW_cDHBY3qJD2sCs348BfThob/s1600/clean-sign-closeup.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
If I have it, I'll use a spray can of clear coat to spray the finish on (versus ModPodge). I just find it easier and quicker.... and I don't get the brush marks. However, either one works fine... use what you have.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_bhaGTqYgtqWVVNWWltX2UxcjQ/edit?usp=sharing" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggg68gRTU2mo7G07WLVeEXeU4E8h-mFaY3qti6at9Da57AlZwH7lxn-iQqOr0EB9VFDmL7ZF7bRH1pkOy2FAUWaHTLokmd_exlXqUwziahuBJIPl9zvY_RpcYFXN2ttLRPCTbduFLHo-YA/s1600/clean-or-dirty-final.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>

Now we'll see how long it takes for them to a) notice the sign and b) to see if it makes a difference!<br />

<br />
The client I painted the Lane cedar chest for (read the details <a href="http://vintagehomeobx.blogspot.com/2014/06/lane-cedar-chest.html" target="_blank"><span style="color: #cc0000;">here</span></a>) was in the process of downsizing her home and gave me this dresser because she had no room or use for it (it came with all the drawers...this is just where I was when I remembered to take a picture). She wouldn't let me pay for it so I offered to help her with setting up her new house when she was ready, or any other service I could offer, if she needed it. <br />
<br />

<br />
It was an older Bassett dresser in mint condition, probably from the 60s or 70s. Newer pieces have the logo stamped inside using an ink pad. This piece had the actual raised emblem on the inside of one of the drawers (thank you for the tip <a href="http://rpkinteriors.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">RPK Interiors</a>).<br />

<br />
I wanted to paint it Paris Grey, but was out of it and too impatient to place an order. Taking what I DID have, I blended French Linen, Old White and just a bit of Louis Blue. The end result looked very much like Paris Grey, I was happy with the result, and I saved time and money in not having to order paint. <br />

<br />
The bottom drawers only had one pull in the center of each drawer (which is the first time I've seen that) and the fixture itself was pretty large in that the holes for the screws on the back were set farther apart than standard pulls I've found. <br />
<br />
Replacing the hardware was out, so I opted for my standard Oil Rubbed Bronze spray paint. In my mind I was thinking that the dark color would look good against the light grey. Uhh.. <i>nope</i>! At least not to me. It looked very Spanish Modern to me (anyone else's parents ever had a orange crushed velvet sectional with a rod iron table? No? Lucky me!)<br />
<br />
I couldn't paint them white fast enough! Much better.<br />
<br />

<br />
It will be making its way to my sister's house soon as a part of her bedroom makeover we'll be doing. Can't wait to see it in place.<br />
<br />
And the generous woman that gave it to me had fabric and wanted to recover her kitchen dinette chairs but had never done it before. When my son & I delivered the cedar chest to her new house, I took the chair cushions with me a fixed them for her. On the value scale, certainly not worth as much as a free fabulous dresser, but for her she got "new" kitchen chairs and was able to get rid of a dresser she didn't want without having to pay movers or storage, and my sister has a new piece of furniture. Win/Win!<br />

<br />
This wash stand is probably one of the easiest and quickest updates I've ever done. I found it on Craigs List a while back, and overall it was in pretty good condition. The top just needed a little work.<br />
<br />
(<i>The drop down desk shown behind it is another piece finished that I'll share another time</i>)<br />
<br />
I usually don't go for pine or light colored furniture... I like it somewhat darker, but decided to wait to finish the top until I had painted the entire piece. I'm glad I did.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1gBwJAlXEMfTrTexwC2mdBuKYi3nMcuo0Fr12Zo99yQeJMkRblg99109C2TrhAPFQzj3SFYKH25Sq3zDxShGI3VpC71cYJ1wAr-pd0HL_H5__wwfUyEDGeKrVVLVc24Bbr6xG95pauWTe/s1600/wash-stand-open.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1gBwJAlXEMfTrTexwC2mdBuKYi3nMcuo0Fr12Zo99yQeJMkRblg99109C2TrhAPFQzj3SFYKH25Sq3zDxShGI3VpC71cYJ1wAr-pd0HL_H5__wwfUyEDGeKrVVLVc24Bbr6xG95pauWTe/s1600/wash-stand-open.jpg" height="640" width="488" /></a></div>
<br />
I painted it in ASCP Duck Egg Blue (with a little Old White, to lighten the color). One coat of Light Oak on the top and clear wax, and the interior was cleaned and left in its original state. The hardware was wiped down and left as is, too.<br />
<br />
This is one of those pieces I wish I had kept, as I could see it in so many different rooms for different purposes. I ended up selling it inside of 2 weeks after I took it to the shop. <br />
<br />
Guess I'll just have to keep my eyes peeled for another one...<br />

<br />
I know many of you are wondering why someone would paint a cedar chest (my 18 year old son, the wood worker, is one of them). This was actually a job I did for a client (that's not to say, if it were mine I wouldn't paint it....). She had previously bought a drop down desk and upholstered chair from me that I had listed on Craigslist and called me a few months later to see what I could do with this.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidRkA4dzMeDomXfJykvLv3NVPG3PVIB2oT91Z4QP9Pl14kMkrCYqn_l-A3JnRJEekBewlcWkAG0ffJq-XDAMr4yAMQAPveltgZMfyKQdjH1vHjhs2PH9UU0xwKMiNC2srYY4gVPjOSUpsh/s1600/cedar-chest-top.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidRkA4dzMeDomXfJykvLv3NVPG3PVIB2oT91Z4QP9Pl14kMkrCYqn_l-A3JnRJEekBewlcWkAG0ffJq-XDAMr4yAMQAPveltgZMfyKQdjH1vHjhs2PH9UU0xwKMiNC2srYY4gVPjOSUpsh/s1600/cedar-chest-top.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
She was in the process of downsizing to a smaller home and wanted to use the chest in the spare room for her granddaughter when she visited. It had some pretty deep gouges on the top, and she wanted an updated, fresher look for the new room.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEga2ZpvkjeRIUiveydgu7vMCRbzpxQpSsM2niXt-50up8wp8JT-RaI8_NenGl2TSJuvwITFKYuHiaXqmp7KiLMaiXqkWtPkyDDG9GmVK6cWg3lbzoXc2jIppjBpvteSL7jx2swpZz0VypQB/s1600/cedar-chest.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEga2ZpvkjeRIUiveydgu7vMCRbzpxQpSsM2niXt-50up8wp8JT-RaI8_NenGl2TSJuvwITFKYuHiaXqmp7KiLMaiXqkWtPkyDDG9GmVK6cWg3lbzoXc2jIppjBpvteSL7jx2swpZz0VypQB/s1600/cedar-chest.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
She chose Duck Egg Blue (one of my favorites!) and wanted it very lightly distressed. She left the finish up to me. This is after 2 coats of paint (and no, I did NOT paint the actual cedar interior- it was in mint condition).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWkg0G5qhfHjpVJy45KPQX66IoE8xBWiXqME-xRuCcDSq89lqGyZqyoPyy-nU9gk3efFShVsIx7vRWJ9CFhLNv-1H_2gF1OKT34LQRtGmD4F8r44HWHzhKK9uqNKjHKof6FN5FKfx7W_YA/s1600/cedar-chest-top-after.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWkg0G5qhfHjpVJy45KPQX66IoE8xBWiXqME-xRuCcDSq89lqGyZqyoPyy-nU9gk3efFShVsIx7vRWJ9CFhLNv-1H_2gF1OKT34LQRtGmD4F8r44HWHzhKK9uqNKjHKof6FN5FKfx7W_YA/s1600/cedar-chest-top-after.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I got all of the gouges smoothed out and distressed around the edge of the routed lip to make what was there less noticeable. (not sure what is up with the pinkish hue to this pic???)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQnBVVGX9ASbE9CNl5xSIr0AZBIoIQFkDw5q36UQDTARl8Jopkw2NSOCmsmWX5DOmsjgYPYge-i1w1KPXFV88ZZ8xhu_eANHEtj9YTnf0HMTzLSF23zsTzhH8-aJ7e6A7BL5O3plJJO2Fv/s1600/cedar-chest-front.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQnBVVGX9ASbE9CNl5xSIr0AZBIoIQFkDw5q36UQDTARl8Jopkw2NSOCmsmWX5DOmsjgYPYge-i1w1KPXFV88ZZ8xhu_eANHEtj9YTnf0HMTzLSF23zsTzhH8-aJ7e6A7BL5O3plJJO2Fv/s1600/cedar-chest-front.jpg" height="338" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I mixed my own "white wax" using ASCP in Old White and clear wax (about a 60-40 ratio) and layered that on top of a thin coat of plain clear wax. She had intended to replace the hardware, but hadn't found anything she liked yet. I went ahead and painted the existing hardware, and waxed with the white wax mix ...and she ended up leaving them in place.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKfgrtdkbal5StYHZbiPZ0EO8IMarVF9JHSd7Sv-XkpEqg1PhyphenhyphenqgaYbH0vLJQYWcSALj8Z77zJ80nC6GxAEsLbz4lSEcQkxmnfztqvBA8N2vRoeP70gqc3JTMpYVDI18nsIwHJGe9afH3g/s1600/cedar-chest-after-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKfgrtdkbal5StYHZbiPZ0EO8IMarVF9JHSd7Sv-XkpEqg1PhyphenhyphenqgaYbH0vLJQYWcSALj8Z77zJ80nC6GxAEsLbz4lSEcQkxmnfztqvBA8N2vRoeP70gqc3JTMpYVDI18nsIwHJGe9afH3g/s1600/cedar-chest-after-2.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
It's hard to tell in the other pictures, but I lightly distressed the edges and around the feet.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I had some fabric in my stash that tied in with the paint, so I lined the inside drawer for her as a surprise when she opened it (underneath is the original baize green... like pool table felt).<br />
<br />
She was so pleased when she saw it, she hired me to paint a dresser & night stand to go in the same room (I'll have to see if I can find the pictures of that).<br />
<br />
I love the way it turned out and will definitely use the "white wax" again!<br />

Both my sister and I are Leo babies... she was born the last week in July and I in the first week in August. We usually don't do "the big gift exchange" on our birthdays, but do plan one night somewhere in the middle to get together for dinner and hang out. We've both passed the "mid century" mark, so I wanted to make something that would be appropriate for us both.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
This is what I came up with and thought it would be perfect for her "card" this year... I'll most likely print it on card stock, mount it on a 5x7 piece of hardboard (which I always have on hand) and either expoxy a hanger on the back, or drill 2 holes in each of the upper corners and string a ribbon through it.<br />
<br />
You could also just print it and put it in a frame if you have one handy.<br />
<br />
Just click on the image to access the file to download and print. The artwork is 5x7... however, when you download the actual file, it is 5.5 x 7.5. I allowed a quarter inch border to make it easier to trim for framing. If you mount it, just cut it clean to the image.<br />

<br />
Okay...it's obvious I have a thing for signs. And I could sit at my computer for hours using Photoshop- especially when I get an idea in my head. My Mother's birthday is coming up soon, and I wanted to make something I knew she'd like. My parents don't read my blog (heck, I have to call them ahead of time if I send them an email) so she hasn't seen any of the vintage signs I've been creating.<br />
<br />
The creative juices must have been flowing pretty good on this day.... I had the design done in less than an hour and I love the way it turned out! The frame was really what inspired me- it's an odd size (12 " square on the inside dimensions) and came just as you see it.... distressing and all. It's the first one I've made when I haven't had to paint, wax and buff the frame before I could put it all together. And my Mother has a blue kitchen, so it was meant to be!<br />
<br />
I have one identical frame left in my stash so I may have to make one for myself!<br />
<br />
Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!<br />

The BedI have been wanting to makeover the master bedroom for years (when you see the "before" picture at the end of this post, you'll know why...) This is one of the afters...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_OkmyZ0FVNvAKGOpJBB7NUDuFSQPvza9rLy_IL9pzcMTvaR4EkvFX7IY3IBVSbmzPs70QP0BGiJd_fpMG3YkeSuqE4-lBhyKasM4T0ycvqARrb4raKyTIopfXRu0sIcIfCVKJZK5nKLD4/s1600/antique-bed.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_OkmyZ0FVNvAKGOpJBB7NUDuFSQPvza9rLy_IL9pzcMTvaR4EkvFX7IY3IBVSbmzPs70QP0BGiJd_fpMG3YkeSuqE4-lBhyKasM4T0ycvqARrb4raKyTIopfXRu0sIcIfCVKJZK5nKLD4/s1600/antique-bed.jpg" height="640" width="408" /></a></div>
<br />
About 4 years ago, I was cruising the isles of a furniture store...looking for ideas, and found the perfect set. It was white with brown edging (later...after I crawled out of my rock, I realized it was distressed) on the dresser drawers, bed posts, etc. The set included a bed frame with head & foot board, dresser with mirror and night stand. On sale, the set cost over $1400... which in my mind at the time didn't seem that bad!<br />
<br />
Two weeks later Hurricane Irene struck the Outer Banks, taking out the only road leading south to Hatteras Village, and leaving me unable to work for the rest of the season (a minor inconvenience compared to what was happening to the residents further south).<br />
<br />
I ended up with a lot of time on my hands that winter... and not a whole lot of money. I "window shopped" a lot during those months in every thrift and used furniture store around. I came across an antique bed in excellent condition.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhd9LHoyc3f76sVf8NUr2WduY-0ampoxE9gENlputhmYNat6JvkBOrM_Q6nDRuLJv1RG_SUpPwJI2F7xZvBP0Ghs-z3Dcy-ACWjEidjWvNkX88hCLjVZEE6duQPPWnjfjibHXWv0Hgymrx0/s1600/antique-bed-before.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhd9LHoyc3f76sVf8NUr2WduY-0ampoxE9gENlputhmYNat6JvkBOrM_Q6nDRuLJv1RG_SUpPwJI2F7xZvBP0Ghs-z3Dcy-ACWjEidjWvNkX88hCLjVZEE6duQPPWnjfjibHXWv0Hgymrx0/s1600/antique-bed-before.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
They were asking $150 for the set (including rails and slats) and the woman offered it to me for $100. After an hour talking myself into it, I brought it home.<br />
<br />
This was my first time using ASCP (Old White)... I knew nothing about "bleed through" or how to wax, or anything else. But I had the internet, and a lot of help from people willing to share their projects.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisH1oHUNXqvuC5oza3_3FeW9OjihrlIIRMTyP-bj-ScCo5IOkanwaSp69rm2JBn07MO4iGXTsmhrpAzNDXyP87D4_OVozodQBjB9tvzh38G63ViGD-uKIGT9ncSeTwcag-CTsjw2QHbqj4/s1600/foot-board.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisH1oHUNXqvuC5oza3_3FeW9OjihrlIIRMTyP-bj-ScCo5IOkanwaSp69rm2JBn07MO4iGXTsmhrpAzNDXyP87D4_OVozodQBjB9tvzh38G63ViGD-uKIGT9ncSeTwcag-CTsjw2QHbqj4/s1600/foot-board.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I started with the foot board. It took me a solid week and three coats of paint, but I never had problems with bleed through (thankfully, 'cause I wouldn't have know what it was or what to do). I sanded the edges where I thought they should be sanded, and all around the spindles- just kinda' winging it while trying to remember what the $1400 bed looked like. <br />
<br />
And the waxing?? I couldn't move my arms for days! Still haven't found a short-cut for that process!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhI0J-phg0mKdg0EtqKeR0V9sCSn_PjZZlG3eVu4tyXbbD_-vMrHbBLYnRZ9Vlr0SW5b8mTRp66qYJ4ZzJA7QomP2Hdfrqedq7XgHnvOsQzYeoQQS5NKoiP37BJp1ju6wdXFS0wecNnW1Lv/s1600/side-view.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhI0J-phg0mKdg0EtqKeR0V9sCSn_PjZZlG3eVu4tyXbbD_-vMrHbBLYnRZ9Vlr0SW5b8mTRp66qYJ4ZzJA7QomP2Hdfrqedq7XgHnvOsQzYeoQQS5NKoiP37BJp1ju6wdXFS0wecNnW1Lv/s1600/side-view.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
It took me over 2 weeks to finish it. But I loved it... and I loved the process (even waxing). It sat in the workshop for months, waiting for its new home. I just couldn't bring up that beautiful bed and put it in that depressing bedroom. <br />
<br />
It would be eight months before the room was done and the bed was brought up. Many a night was spent sleeping on the mattress and box springs on the floor, with cardboard boxes for a night stand and a ladder to prop up the TV.<br />
<br />
The wallpaper border had to be stripped, the walls primed and painted, I needed new dressers (I only had one, and it wasn't the right style), new curtains, new bedding, and the list just continued. Did I mention I wasn't working? Yeah... a little bit of a roadblock, for sure!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMTbdvvBCGt8eaEVcMsEwwIuZqTHpvtCKRxqoU_6ojOC5XTmIFcAF2hrlsrEM6j7CdPDtLGnG5pb3o6IeCloXMBRxQ7S7cTPReZ79R-R_SnyMpOzuRfVOHJYN29Kihyphenhyphen3ZcDkn5vq7tpBEE/s1600/right-side.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMTbdvvBCGt8eaEVcMsEwwIuZqTHpvtCKRxqoU_6ojOC5XTmIFcAF2hrlsrEM6j7CdPDtLGnG5pb3o6IeCloXMBRxQ7S7cTPReZ79R-R_SnyMpOzuRfVOHJYN29Kihyphenhyphen3ZcDkn5vq7tpBEE/s1600/right-side.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdpJdD6iXo2-clRzmRcSvXACb-7WXd5IcwXamaFMXitLVpgPd0RmjQ74OWiAJz9iiAof4XNukNvBIZVyyGXhBJQSSF8lqewMKEEuF8f_wl-p3MOhn17gEktCSug2ehkzSDlZVipiMgKAqt/s1600/garden-totes.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdpJdD6iXo2-clRzmRcSvXACb-7WXd5IcwXamaFMXitLVpgPd0RmjQ74OWiAJz9iiAof4XNukNvBIZVyyGXhBJQSSF8lqewMKEEuF8f_wl-p3MOhn17gEktCSug2ehkzSDlZVipiMgKAqt/s1600/garden-totes.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I have a habit of randomly weeding the garden beds out front. I'll see an obvious one on my way to the mailbox and pull it. Then I'll notice its evil twin right next to it, and pull that one... and then the brotha' from anotha' motha' next to that, and so on until I forget what I came outside for in the first place (I hear that comes with age...)<br />
<br />
I've been leaving a 5 gallon bucket next the the front stairs to carry around with me. All that eye-gouging orange brightness and a handle to boot!<br />
<br />
But then I remembered these garden totes we made a while back for the space at Two and a Half Women. The one picture in the back with the dish towels in it is one of a couple I picked up last summer at TJ Max for an idea on construction and design. <br />
<br />
The two in front (with the painted pails) we made at a fraction of the cost. The ones shown are the smaller totes... about 12" long. We also made a larger size at 18". A little leftover plywood, some ASCP and 2 coats of Polycrylic (versus wax, as they're meant to be used outside) and you're good to go.<br />
<br />
Outside, you can use it to carry your clippers, gloves, bottle of water or much needed <i>Skeeter Beater </i>bug spray. Yes... that's <i>Skeeter</i>... as in mosquito (we Southerners are quaint, no?) and Yes it is much needed during the summer months in North Carolina! More importantly... it works just as well as Skin So Soft (anyone remember that tip?)<br />
<br />
I've got the plans here somewhere... just hit the Contact Us link on the left side bar if you're interested!<br />

<div>
Just in case you're running a little behind on the gift giving scene for Father's Day, I've created 2 gift tags for you this week.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B_bhaGTqYgtqbmltRElueDlURjA/edit" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqPtJXRIFPvZ0KohJ6IZ3duSTbOv5QKdtQfttOtl_k025_zZM2r1VzoUb8q5anMivVmqEtdIj2ZTBVvxc1Z38TaRT_RJFNUV85CGh7TiW7ZxQC8S19bvmmn-6oQUeb1om88vhxjcUNWZ2n/s1600/Father's+Day+tag+bw.jpg" height="400" width="400" /></a><span id="goog_1694167389"></span><span id="goog_1694167390"></span><a href="https://www.blogger.com/"></a></div>
<br />
This one is on our popular black board background with white lettering. This is printed on white card stock.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B_bhaGTqYgtqbFJvSkQ2UlpyQ1k/edit" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNtV7pqmCChSC8XOF2VFkp9FmuuIV697aQdIswQdqjQe4sSTSondFI8u_3oXPauwhs2rhCj5n9oxVwykvFQRqkSbwoFTvyr1pVp3KvOGLtvJpsqfute86LFjljMDkXZNeyzNmCm_eEw-4e/s1600/Father's+Day+tag+White3.png" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
If you have a colored card stock, I've created this tag with black text to be printed on the color stock of your choice.<br />
<br />
To access the PDF files, simply click on the pictures above. The file is laid out with 6 tags per page.<br />
<br />
Wishing a Happy Father's Day to all the Dads out there! Enjoy your day.<br />

At the time, I really only wanted the dresser.... I didn't have a need for the bed. But the price was right and the woman was selling both as a set (I basically got the bed for free).<br />
<br />
I finished the dresser a while back (I'll show the pictures of that in another post). <br />
<br />
This is a project we created using the antique head board....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The foot board I kept in my stash, waiting for inspiration to strike.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWXq_CHlsXY-wveoEO2t6gITV4s6vVE13DhN9a2un74lJEpUOnWFP2QhL6uCh-bNlWgGcBEY0lkIMkfhbfruwGLV-QV1zbOJVaQSYGFx3YOH-80ZIrhOUmaGIgqEWQ8QtUVeFAilUpT6bJ/s1600/sofa-table-start.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWXq_CHlsXY-wveoEO2t6gITV4s6vVE13DhN9a2un74lJEpUOnWFP2QhL6uCh-bNlWgGcBEY0lkIMkfhbfruwGLV-QV1zbOJVaQSYGFx3YOH-80ZIrhOUmaGIgqEWQ8QtUVeFAilUpT6bJ/s1600/sofa-table-start.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Several months later, it struck! This is just after I'd removed the ruined veneer from the center. There was small beaded trim work that was broken in places and had to be removed. I saved some of the larger "chunks" for another use down the road. If you've ever shopped for trim pieces in the store, you'll know that stuff ain't cheap!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjT2_RXyGbH20031Yd0zwfJy13DocI9gr0qiJiiCkyolzlQmNrjJlm7DC26W6PrrQtgqlkEtc1c30GSq99SXeFzp-TTC9bdwTQb0wpl9Ew-pT-HfaJjjcm2MPhj6dHAZrdlbIAHtI3HuDgS/s1600/sofa-table-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjT2_RXyGbH20031Yd0zwfJy13DocI9gr0qiJiiCkyolzlQmNrjJlm7DC26W6PrrQtgqlkEtc1c30GSq99SXeFzp-TTC9bdwTQb0wpl9Ew-pT-HfaJjjcm2MPhj6dHAZrdlbIAHtI3HuDgS/s1600/sofa-table-2.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This was after sanding it to smooth out the surface. You'll notice I've also removed the scroll work piece from the bottom. I wanted a straight line on what would become the back of the table (the part against the wall or sofa). </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3DtfvAL52So5BOQ8MwuUb5xCb4W8l43kK7b5yjqH4UCvGrYjLz6TA97BRpDWpYd-cuRbCmmc9Q60c7buMldyM1NYLIOQmwhKgfpTkDhCtz5w7E9AsvvCy0VMs7svqdw1IGLlP-5uMgXh2/s1600/sofa-table-old-white.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3DtfvAL52So5BOQ8MwuUb5xCb4W8l43kK7b5yjqH4UCvGrYjLz6TA97BRpDWpYd-cuRbCmmc9Q60c7buMldyM1NYLIOQmwhKgfpTkDhCtz5w7E9AsvvCy0VMs7svqdw1IGLlP-5uMgXh2/s1600/sofa-table-old-white.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
At first my plan was to paint it in ASCP Old White. This is after 2 coats. Something about the ornate section at the top was buggin' me. It looked odd to me I guess because the rest of the piece was pretty "plain". And leaving it on, to me, made it look like exactly what it was. Part of a bed....which would eventually be "stuck" on some legs and called a table. Not the look I was going for. <br />
<br />
I ended up having my son cut the top off... and I changed the color, too.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijMZZ4uMhqlw8zPfzmCOulGKOt6uSBdXPHfhsepUucdivd8E9wpxxQfJoHjO-mGfu06nlDmD4XRzzkKOcrOyFD68TDjRfyX0kinjPx_qBbXvH8u7o0Y4Bs3HA7KECVHGx0LbzdhIZPtp37/s1600/anitque-sofa-table-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijMZZ4uMhqlw8zPfzmCOulGKOt6uSBdXPHfhsepUucdivd8E9wpxxQfJoHjO-mGfu06nlDmD4XRzzkKOcrOyFD68TDjRfyX0kinjPx_qBbXvH8u7o0Y4Bs3HA7KECVHGx0LbzdhIZPtp37/s1600/anitque-sofa-table-1.jpg" height="640" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
And this is the end result. My son routed the edge where we removed the scroll work and I ended up going with 2 coats of Graphite and clear wax. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiViRjop7-n_IyuLi-K8ZK0umRGC8n7gep5OQnQod2f8UG_S0N4O4UDyGjly9astRDtvWx8uVus3m7XXp6iZJj9VvQE7GA-ChNoU6F3NbcuiWFFfSgVWrbYS1pcIw_YwReE9eUwYgsheAD/s1600/antique-sofa-table-3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiViRjop7-n_IyuLi-K8ZK0umRGC8n7gep5OQnQod2f8UG_S0N4O4UDyGjly9astRDtvWx8uVus3m7XXp6iZJj9VvQE7GA-ChNoU6F3NbcuiWFFfSgVWrbYS1pcIw_YwReE9eUwYgsheAD/s1600/antique-sofa-table-3.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
And the piece we cut off of the top...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwXxVFCJuBTODwoZwjN7XEvrkgr_dtTWJm8aD4GArTsGWa2iG-etRpQTpO9xcFEsjZ-IQAUabZbadEOGPqH_dswHPNZonm3YSUEd0GeX0Kdi32cybCSsjRAA5N-_b5VyYyMpVzXd-Q-LrD/s1600/towel-rack.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwXxVFCJuBTODwoZwjN7XEvrkgr_dtTWJm8aD4GArTsGWa2iG-etRpQTpO9xcFEsjZ-IQAUabZbadEOGPqH_dswHPNZonm3YSUEd0GeX0Kdi32cybCSsjRAA5N-_b5VyYyMpVzXd-Q-LrD/s1600/towel-rack.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>

<br />
However, it is very similar in design (three drawers on either side and carved legs) and the mirrors are pretty close (with the center one being much taller, only my side mirrors weren't so curvy). The major difference is this one seems to be in good condition... MINE was missing drawers, had cracked veneer and was so dirty that the finish was almost black.<br />
<br />
We took the mirrors off first... I'll show you what I did with them in a later post. The "shelf" in the middle eventually became this...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
This is with 2 coats of ASCP in Old White and a coat of clear wax. I sanded the tops, put on one coat of Jacobean stain and then waxed when dried. Up against the arms of the sofa, they were a little low and looked kinda' "off" to me. <br />

<br />
I didn't have any "legs" in my stash, but I did have some wood knobs leftover from another project. I just flipped them over and screwed them to the four corners. It's not a big change, but the extra 2 inches I gained in height put the tables at a better level next to the couch. <br />

<br />
Because I was missing so many drawers, I did away with them all together. I tried some small baskets I found at the Dollar Store the first time around...not lovin'!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVLw7f7ZkNeNjvOhJuAfiR_CrYmfXNEQEUM9uLzRktB1Ypm5xxvpN_sKxQLh-BabE78GYeQz3bKfGd9JlaY_nojsGw-BEz9Z0S-xsh9DCQWlLQ4uqVfeuCjcz3ayj724zEfYST6T7hYfkd/s1600/end-tables-with-cigar-boxes.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVLw7f7ZkNeNjvOhJuAfiR_CrYmfXNEQEUM9uLzRktB1Ypm5xxvpN_sKxQLh-BabE78GYeQz3bKfGd9JlaY_nojsGw-BEz9Z0S-xsh9DCQWlLQ4uqVfeuCjcz3ayj724zEfYST6T7hYfkd/s1600/end-tables-with-cigar-boxes.jpg" height="640" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
Then I swapped those out for all cigar boxes. Gives the tables a little more of a masculine feel and I think they look pretty cool.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjliDp03wnLHaYcJX56Ip-CjWk1jAcQvloklCQ-yxpz1gG0KbagQZsZ2zrggh0INYWaI9OHYXmGuDHP0ocnxYnrfMqas4w3Tm2Fp1BjkO8KEljTYySwbLdqOyOKFToirtdIul-He_DVjxM6/s1600/full-view.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjliDp03wnLHaYcJX56Ip-CjWk1jAcQvloklCQ-yxpz1gG0KbagQZsZ2zrggh0INYWaI9OHYXmGuDHP0ocnxYnrfMqas4w3Tm2Fp1BjkO8KEljTYySwbLdqOyOKFToirtdIul-He_DVjxM6/s1600/full-view.jpg" height="640" width="416" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I also used cigar boxes to bring the lamps up a little higher...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguqjGX0xGqcKaTURlhjGprD0FHXvxQ79Yl5n50cn1dncGDI6v_ZLfYaOubGOwLJmPi65MVHf4Ui74zX4rUWOu2JrrwqgrxtjdmuV-1eL1RSIFMdfmWyvMcmeRtKT3fOnBHm7XS0JPHz4S0/s1600/cigar-boxes.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguqjGX0xGqcKaTURlhjGprD0FHXvxQ79Yl5n50cn1dncGDI6v_ZLfYaOubGOwLJmPi65MVHf4Ui74zX4rUWOu2JrrwqgrxtjdmuV-1eL1RSIFMdfmWyvMcmeRtKT3fOnBHm7XS0JPHz4S0/s1600/cigar-boxes.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
...and on the other side of the room for these smaller lamps.<br />
<br />
Love me some cigar boxes... I use them to coral all the crappola I have laying around.... especially in my office! They're inexpensive, easy to find and come in all sizes and types. The cardboard ones are the cheapest (around $2 to $3 ) but they usually have the coolest graphics. The wooden ones aren't much more (maybe $5 or so) but have a bigger selection of shapes & sizes. Either way, they both come in handy!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

It was just the touch the room needed!<br />

The homeowner had purchased new living room furniture, but still had all of the original rattan furniture placed throughout the upper floor.<br />
<br />
Sometimes it's just a matter of editing what is already there. We took out the bulk of large, unnecessary furniture, repositioned the existing dining table to give more seating area, and rearranged the living room.<br />
<br />
We kept the smaller rattan table and chair set (to help with the overflow, when the house is fully occupied). After a closer look at the chair cushions, I went with a quick fix for an instant update.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhC1khS39VhziMbzXGw2C8njcuJwutbUs2GSsvKy8g1FcXvJhHhMksXLmCEm1IBKDYc9vI3NArE6M0rQoAc7IfmlHh-lwoKyfwxLz9P5_2_RlBYzVhZ6KesF8l9ZsuNDC7IOq0Pz4q3GJmg/s1600/chairs-side-by-side.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhC1khS39VhziMbzXGw2C8njcuJwutbUs2GSsvKy8g1FcXvJhHhMksXLmCEm1IBKDYc9vI3NArE6M0rQoAc7IfmlHh-lwoKyfwxLz9P5_2_RlBYzVhZ6KesF8l9ZsuNDC7IOq0Pz4q3GJmg/s1600/chairs-side-by-side.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
We were working with a limited budget, and I just happened to have enough of this striped Sunbrella fabric to recover the cushions. This is one of the easiest and most economical changes you can make for existing chairs. I always try to go with a heavier weight fabric (for durability) and a quick coat of Scotchguard... especially if the fabric is light. <br />
<br />
Once the chairs were done, the bar stools at the counter were looking a little sad...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZmCpZ8Je54CMFDX31CDLy5Bz5BcNh_hWKrSUB9lA9nlTP08itnxhf2T1uu7BCVBDRI2Nle76SEQcWp1d8bCfBwfK1QCdIjGBLNzoQGncjYLB9r92HSfkjqu0hY2PXCjt6LO2Iytquv8-2/s1600/bar-stools-before.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZmCpZ8Je54CMFDX31CDLy5Bz5BcNh_hWKrSUB9lA9nlTP08itnxhf2T1uu7BCVBDRI2Nle76SEQcWp1d8bCfBwfK1QCdIjGBLNzoQGncjYLB9r92HSfkjqu0hY2PXCjt6LO2Iytquv8-2/s1600/bar-stools-before.jpg" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Many folks have these in their homes.... standard bar stools with a rush seat. The seating itself was dried out and faded from the sun. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjM-JAkyo29hfxXxkhOLfNsKMFHjfGdbNtMaRMAjox1DIWEJZmIVmO06s7lSlUHK9VGaJjw_HRIapwjftFwolOHgz_U9AsBZLF58IylxT-luCdxdfnGkv7rYA41_-KQ2Go2ryPl8T_VY1eH/s1600/rush-bar-stools.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjM-JAkyo29hfxXxkhOLfNsKMFHjfGdbNtMaRMAjox1DIWEJZmIVmO06s7lSlUHK9VGaJjw_HRIapwjftFwolOHgz_U9AsBZLF58IylxT-luCdxdfnGkv7rYA41_-KQ2Go2ryPl8T_VY1eH/s1600/rush-bar-stools.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
A little ASCP love (in Provence, Florence, Aubusson Blue, and Louis Blue) and they tied in perfectly with the new chair cushions (you can see them against one of the chairs in the corner) and the furniture in the rest of the room. Later, I ended up putting a coat of clear Danish Oil on the rush seating to soften them up and keep them from splitting. Instead of wax, this time I went with 2 coats of polycrylic over the paint (to hold up better.... especially in a rental home).<br />
<br />
I did both projects over 2 days (I had to wait for the chairs to be delivered) but this could have easily been done in one. <br />
<br />
The fabric for the chairs was 60" wide, so it only took about a yard and a half for the 4 cushions. I had the fabric on-hand, but I've found heavy weight remnants in the same width for $5/yd. or less. <br />
<br />
I also had the paint on-hand, but the stools took very little, and I could have gone with one color to keep the cost down. I just happened to have all four in my stash. <br />
<br />
Based on what you have or what you shop for, you can recover your seats and update some bar stools for $25 or less! <br />
<br />
These are two easy projects that take very little time or money. So what do you see in your home that could use a lift?<br />

What better way to celebrate the things you enjoy doing than by passing them along. Each Saturday, I'm hoping to share one of the items I've created during the week with anyone and everyone that might need it.<br />
<br />
With graduations coming up, and Father's Day right around the corner, this chalkboard inspired gift tag just might come in handy!<br />

The card itself measures 3"x1.5". I've created a PDF with 12 tags on the sheet to use now and possibly later. I print mine on white card stock. Just print out your sheet, cut the individual tags out (I use a paper cutter, but plain 'ole scissors work just as well), punch a hole in the corner and attach with ribbon... or baker's twine... or whatever you have. I happen to like seam binding and keep spools of it on hand in several colors.<br />

<br />
Just a quick post today to show you an easy (and relatively inexpensive) update for your wooden bar stools. I bought this pair seven or eight years ago from K-Mart of all places. They were solid wood with a dark walnut stain.... I think I paid around $40 each. <br />
<br />
I bought them with our kitchen remodel in mind, but once we build the counter/bar we realized these would be a few inches too tall. I kept them for extra seating... just in case. And never used them!<br />
<br />
Two coats of ASCP Duck Egg Blue and clear wax, and they have a whole new look (and sold 2 days after I listed them!). And the older couple that bought them <strong>are</strong> using them!<br />
<br />
Next week we'll be sharing smaller projects you can finish in no time at all!<br />
<br />

A friend of mine picked up this quilt rack for me a while back, thinking I could paint and fix it up. Now I'm all for the "distressed" look and I love the whole blue-turquoise color family, but this is too much for even me! (<em>and this was not photoshopped for effect!)</em></div>

This is after I took it apart and brought it into the house. Mind you, this is not milk paint that "flakes" off naturally. This is a latex paint over wood (with no primer). Not to be disparaging... but it needs a little TLC! </div>

We've been busy gearing up for the summer season here and are so happy to see the local businesses sprucing up and re-opening their doors. Welcome to the Outer Banks, visitors! </div>
<br />
Closer to home, we've been working on expanding our line of custom vinyl and vintage inspired advertising signs & chalk boards. <br />
<br />

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
This "Mercantile" board measures 12x16 (inside dimensions). The frame is painted in a custom blend of ASCP in French Linen, Old White and a hint of Paris Blue. Perfect for keeping track of your groceries. <br />

<br />
This one is based on the barbershop my sons would go to when we visited family in Mass. It's one of my favorites.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
And this is a sign I created for my son, Davis for graduation next week. He wants to go into construction, so I chose the quote at the bottom for obvious reasons. <br />
<br />
All artwork is original and created in-house, with several designs to choose from.<br />
<br />
The Chalkboards and Vintage Signs are now available in our space at Two & a Half Women (Elizabeth City, NC) and Sprycreek Home Furnishings (Corolla, NC).<br />
<br />
We're also working on a custom order for vinyl wall art that we hope to share later this week. <br />
<br />
June is here and summer is on its way...Enjoy!<br />

Standard "Thirfty Store Find" Dresser....<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My sister recently asked me to refinish an older dresser that she's had in her bedroom forever and transform it into something my older nephew might want and be able to use. I'm really pleased with the way it turned out, and hope he will be as well. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSnee2KOxl0446rcQFxHO47kW6E5P62ojUhDdinVsekwQhu69Whb-wAYuxpc6mY00NI1btyZwwSFqbCli1sgNxPsxa3B2ucQoV9SSMcXWt4-9K3lxvr4b0oqS6bBQyZPbt5FqFb2Qc9od8/s1600/Final-Dresser.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSnee2KOxl0446rcQFxHO47kW6E5P62ojUhDdinVsekwQhu69Whb-wAYuxpc6mY00NI1btyZwwSFqbCli1sgNxPsxa3B2ucQoV9SSMcXWt4-9K3lxvr4b0oqS6bBQyZPbt5FqFb2Qc9od8/s1600/Final-Dresser.jpg" height="400" width="387" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
We've seen them everywhere.... most often in thrift shops or on Craig's List. I've had several in my home for my children when they were younger because they were affordable and durable. <br />
<br />
I've seen them for sale for as little as $15 to $20, and provided the drawers are in good shape and the runners intact, with a little paint and elbow grease it can easily become something stylish and useful for more years to come. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
(before)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2g8R4VePjzJiiZ5oDQg3MMupCB1tyoqVhk4tdi-axgpuLo_xAf1tyq1ynX5jr0FulhH7RElSRdUFzk2K9dQtvmvhKETp2QvdC6ZVtJ-eO3udnHGj-pnUjYAr1mWipckgQ33yHuiBy00fd/s1600/standard-dresser-before.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2g8R4VePjzJiiZ5oDQg3MMupCB1tyoqVhk4tdi-axgpuLo_xAf1tyq1ynX5jr0FulhH7RElSRdUFzk2K9dQtvmvhKETp2QvdC6ZVtJ-eO3udnHGj-pnUjYAr1mWipckgQ33yHuiBy00fd/s1600/standard-dresser-before.jpg" height="241" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
While the above photo is not the original, it is almost the exact dresser we were working with (outside of the fact that ours was taller and not as wide). <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhT31E_ozTl7JPnfK6-6hnPRKwHSoPJ4Y31z5GX38aHZij6GLLZM9xuhAU4DE0-23k00CcRvoSMf0yaadHf-6qsEeGhn_sK83WXmv5DrPC1iUZb5y30r6lR4a-tYJb5mzsbBVfFN9p0ilti/s1600/the-start-after-sanding.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhT31E_ozTl7JPnfK6-6hnPRKwHSoPJ4Y31z5GX38aHZij6GLLZM9xuhAU4DE0-23k00CcRvoSMf0yaadHf-6qsEeGhn_sK83WXmv5DrPC1iUZb5y30r6lR4a-tYJb5mzsbBVfFN9p0ilti/s1600/the-start-after-sanding.jpg" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
The drawers were in good shape on this piece.... the runners had to be realigned and glued into place and the frame itself had some minor dings and deep scratches. After a rough sand on the bottom portion, I completely sanded the top down to the bare wood. After an hour or so, I still could not get the top to look uniform until I realized there were 2 different pieces joined together to create the top. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhLH1Pb6PSb0UvCjN8e-phe4-TOQ_6KvW2eVFiGlMNvxAuUhURYvJ3l1_wf2t5OoJ3L2lGAS9ivvBPOf-NP01jwLXrc4TMvlODaxDKumEM-iYG1XhW2ipq4j3uvhmqcX31VIX_cFfuLiy-/s1600/stripped-and-sanded-top.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhLH1Pb6PSb0UvCjN8e-phe4-TOQ_6KvW2eVFiGlMNvxAuUhURYvJ3l1_wf2t5OoJ3L2lGAS9ivvBPOf-NP01jwLXrc4TMvlODaxDKumEM-iYG1XhW2ipq4j3uvhmqcX31VIX_cFfuLiy-/s1600/stripped-and-sanded-top.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Once I got the entire top smooth, I moved on; hoping a few coats of stain would even things out. At that time, the top was still to "red" for me and I was hoping for the best.<br />
<br />
I was also hoping to replace all of the dated wooden knobs with some cool ORB knobs on the upper 3 smaller drawers, and some cool cup pulls to match on the remaining drawers. That was before I realized that the remaining 10 drawers had 2 knobs a piece (versus the 1 knob on the upper set). While the finished product would have looked awesome, the cost to replace 23 knobs/cup pulls would have outweighed the cost of repurposing the piece to begin with. <br />
<br />
That's when, as the professional you hope you are, you have to trust your instincts. Sure, the new knobs would have given the piece a whole "NEW" feel versus the dated piece it was, but it didn't make sense monetarily. I had then thought to spray paint the existing dated wood knobs with ORB paint, but I couldn't see it making any difference.<br />
<br />
After walking away from it for a few hours, it occurred to me to just clean them up, apply a little Danish oil to make them shine and restore the wood, and work with what I had.<br />
<br />
I figured I had already stained and oiled the top....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDqeudQyUhenlXFaFKoZLcsm9g83SfO7mxFjW6LMKNsPJdgz8ek6K1uGmN5BCYbaqNjEBPVtS9Wgs3a7MkNVxyypxQIfpAXilCAOHeTbRemJ35wEIeImm68fohmAi8YBqjk5aSA_esISi9/s1600/finished-top-before-oil.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDqeudQyUhenlXFaFKoZLcsm9g83SfO7mxFjW6LMKNsPJdgz8ek6K1uGmN5BCYbaqNjEBPVtS9Wgs3a7MkNVxyypxQIfpAXilCAOHeTbRemJ35wEIeImm68fohmAi8YBqjk5aSA_esISi9/s1600/finished-top-before-oil.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
...and left the darker spots to fall in naturally with the finish to tie in with the black paint. Why not leave the knobs as refinished wood, too, and tie the whole piece in together?<br />
<br />
After doing a linear distressing on all of the drawer fronts, refinishing the top, cleaning and refreshing the knobs, and leaving the frame itself fully painted.... I love how it turned out!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiFz7jiUDtX2kCKYExtE0NyFrAuxtDc7dptLmTcdPxrG3lmgeWNlhs9BfrSr3wYlUIybXcWUknKbBFGNKG7chbdeSNnPRHXC_w0vBntdW_ahqCtIywCbw3mk92qVagIm44V0HE6-GnyZmf/s1600/Updated-60's-Dresser.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiFz7jiUDtX2kCKYExtE0NyFrAuxtDc7dptLmTcdPxrG3lmgeWNlhs9BfrSr3wYlUIybXcWUknKbBFGNKG7chbdeSNnPRHXC_w0vBntdW_ahqCtIywCbw3mk92qVagIm44V0HE6-GnyZmf/s1600/Updated-60's-Dresser.jpg" height="400" width="336" /></a></div>
<br />
The lighting in the room gives the wood tones a much "redder" hue than it actually is (and what my sister swears is a dark blue versus actual Graphite Black body) the overall effect is a beautiful updated chest of drawers that I hope my nephew enjoys for many years to come!<br />
<br />
Proof positive that you can take something you LOVE (with sentimental attachment) but don't LIKE (due to age... aesthetics... or just not your "vibe") and turn it into something you can live with happily for years to come!<br />
<br />
It truly is about <u>rejuvenating</u> your home and <u>restoring</u> your style for less!<br />
<br />

Lora http://www.blogger.com/profile/08521515694013333442noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4053958068842683859.post-45451144051555591132014-01-05T00:30:00.000-05:002014-06-11T11:28:42.973-04:00A Work in Progress...Several months ago I bought an antique bedroom set for a VERY good price off of Craigslist. It included an ornate dresser with a mirror and a full sized bed frame... complete with footboard, headboard and the side rails. I wanted the dresser for a one-day hopeful bathroom remodel... using a repurposed dresser for a bathroom vanity. It's not become popular in decorating, but I've had a picture in my inspiration folder for about 20 years. Photos of the completed project coming soon.... it's currently be stored in my master bedroom closet until I can actually afford the remodel! What's that about putting the cart before the horse????<br />
<br />
<em>Any-who</em>... to be honest, I didn't need nor want the bed, but the price for the set was cheap enough so that the bed was basically free.... I figured I could do something with at some point.<br />
<br />
Then I got a request from the ladies that own the shop where I rent my space from for a custom sidewalk chalk board.<br />
<br />
The headboard was repurposed to this...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj97MtmQsux42kPPbpRd6xIJrZ-iRLe71ZvNo_STfJQRImqAxHCZbG_Rh6prAZV6zb-0msqyoWfGQHWIxHjvyddZBXwW2RN3Ghk9mpTRjS0brG3Wm1jEu8RSAYyuzVe4ONiE6irncg3wtH5/s1600/Two-and-a-Half-Women-Board.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj97MtmQsux42kPPbpRd6xIJrZ-iRLe71ZvNo_STfJQRImqAxHCZbG_Rh6prAZV6zb-0msqyoWfGQHWIxHjvyddZBXwW2RN3Ghk9mpTRjS0brG3Wm1jEu8RSAYyuzVe4ONiE6irncg3wtH5/s640/Two-and-a-Half-Women-Board.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
I had my son cut the headboard in half and I flipped it upside down with the middle/ cut-line on the bottom. We added legs on the inside for support (which were pieces of the slats that came with the frame), but I didn't like the way it looked at the bottom. So I had Davis cut one of the side rails and I attached it as a skirt at the bottom over the legs. A few coats of chalk board paint on the inside (inside of the original routed edges) and along the rails, some custom cut vinyl using the font from their logo.... and there you have it! A custom sidewalk chalk board that is as unique as their shop! <br />
<br />
I love the way it turned out.... but better yet, so did they!<br />
<br />
This is what I started with...I still have the very bottom section and legs left over to turn into something else later down the road. (Please disregard the miscellaneous dirt, etc. in the work room!)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJW63ZAWBPMK8AWX0kV9BX7uHr58Pzw0NQHcgEqiT7d3lPBWcsifb-em13slsbp8nmE1wIrlSx-cgz9bf7_HmMu6jj3kwAs5XG1QKpZwmLFtUdFV2edgPStNOQjFuyIP9kk5zv-CPzFWmZ/s1600/chalk-board-before-.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJW63ZAWBPMK8AWX0kV9BX7uHr58Pzw0NQHcgEqiT7d3lPBWcsifb-em13slsbp8nmE1wIrlSx-cgz9bf7_HmMu6jj3kwAs5XG1QKpZwmLFtUdFV2edgPStNOQjFuyIP9kk5zv-CPzFWmZ/s400/chalk-board-before-.jpg" height="310" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
So I'm now left with the footboard.... and a much needed project to start. I haven't painted or made anything since before the holidays and I'm startin' to get jumpy!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrFsNxExakha7jgxcAhRquRT8L8j2CAvSxgDFVI7rZq-UoCtMQG08_SaHgCoXx6QWRI4hxDvl-Rpqzk8l4le1OB2Y7XOtAGwNiRiU_8eGMYvlJegQH5X2U4rpeH73Hdz17zWRL1AXzJwzC/s1600/sofa-table.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrFsNxExakha7jgxcAhRquRT8L8j2CAvSxgDFVI7rZq-UoCtMQG08_SaHgCoXx6QWRI4hxDvl-Rpqzk8l4le1OB2Y7XOtAGwNiRiU_8eGMYvlJegQH5X2U4rpeH73Hdz17zWRL1AXzJwzC/s640/sofa-table.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
This is the beginning stages. There was a veneered piece on the top and bottom middle section that bugged me... it is also on the matching dresser drawers. I left the pieces in tact on the dresser, but once I finished painting it, it bugged me. Kinda' reminds me of a circus tent! It bugged me a lot...but not enough to remove and repaint, so I'm learning to live with it. <br />
<br />
But before I started on the footboard, I decided to remove the "circus" veneer... you know.... not to be bugged even further!<br />
<br />
You'll have to check back on Tuesday to see the progress....any guesses?<br />
